Greatest Showman Musical Premieres in London 2027

A glittering spectacle is making its way to London, promising to bring the magic of The Greatest Showman directly to the West End stage.

Disney Theatrical Group recently announced that the stage adaptation of the beloved 2017 film will premiere at the historic Theatre Royal Drury Lane in the spring of 2027. This monumental move follows a highly successful run, including a sold-out world premiere at the Bristol Hippodrome earlier this year.

The exciting news was unveiled during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, demonstrating the incredible anticipation surrounding this theatrical translation of the film’s spectacular story. The production promises to be as dazzling as the movie itself, bringing Barnum and his family’s journey to life for a new generation.

The production will feature an exciting cast, with Oliver Tompsett taking on the role of P.T. Barnum, alongside Samantha Barks as his wife, Charity Barnum. The ensemble will also include Ben Joyce as Phillip Carlyle, Vajèn van den Bosch as Jenny Lind, and Malinda Parris as Lettie Lutz, adding depth and sparkle to the circus family.

The story itself draws from the 2017 film starring Hugh Jackman, which captured massive commercial success. The source material is built around a compelling narrative of an unemployed man who transforms his life by creating a spectacular circus that grows into the famous Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.

The cinematic inspiration was already a cultural phenomenon, with its soundtrack achieving major recognition. The album hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in 2018 and secured the Golden Globe for best original song in 2018 for the track “This Is Me.

For the stage production, the team is weaving beloved musical moments into the narrative. The show will feature iconic songs such as “The Greatest Show,” “A Million Dreams,” “Come Alive,” “Rewrite the Stars,” “Never Enough,” and “This Is Me,” while also introducing brand new music specifically composed for the stage.

The creative team behind the musical brings a wealth of experience. The score will be penned by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who originally wrote the film’s songs, ensuring authenticity and emotional depth. Tim Federle is developing the book, and Casey Nicholaw will direct and choreograph the ambitious spectacle.
