Tom Morello dates his first solo rock LP

Rock music has always been a powerful vehicle for commentary, and guitarist Tom Morello continues to push those boundaries with his latest offering, the solo rock album Everyone Gets Everything They Want. This new collection isn’t just a guitar showcase; it’s a manifesto delivered through blistering riffs, diving deep into themes of global political unrest, fascism, and immigrant rights.

Set for release on September 25th via Mom + Pop Music, the album channels Morello’s signature guitar heroics into potent calls for change. It’s an eclectic project fueled by a roster of collaborators, including Serj Tankian, Kneecap, and Beartooth, alongside his 15-year-old son, Roman Morello, who contributed to five tracks.

The centerpiece of the album is the electrifying single “Date Night.” This track draws inspiration from a dramatic piece of history, focusing on the true story of Dutch resistance fighters like Truus Oversteegen and Hannie Schaft. They used their youthful defiance to sabotage Nazi operations, smuggle weapons, rescue Jewish children, and assassinate occupying officers during World War II.

Morello frames the work as a direct confrontation: “I make anti-racist songs for anti-racists. I make anti-fascist songs for anti-fascists. And I make anti-Nazi songs for anti-Nazis,” he stated regarding the record. He describes “Date Night” as a powerful moment of moral reckoning, asking listeners, “which side are you on?”

Beyond this powerful narrative, the album features a diverse tracklist that mixes high-energy rock with poignant social commentary. The list includes songs like “Everything Burns,” featuring Beartooth, and “Unconquered,” featuring Kneecap.

The creative synergy on the record is palpable, building upon previous collaborations, such as his work with System of a Down’s Serj Tankian on Adjourn It and the Beartooth collaboration “Everything Burns.”

Morello plans to bring this message to wider audiences through a series of upcoming appearances. He will support Everyone Gets Everything They Want with performances, including Louder Than Life in Louisville, Ky., and his own previously announced Power to the People event on October 3 in Columbia, Md. The lineup for these events features a powerful mix of artists like Bruce Springsteen, Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews, Joan Baez, and Tankian.

The full album, Everyone Gets Everything They Want, is packed with potent material, offering listeners a soundtrack to current struggles while celebrating the enduring power of resistance and uncompromising ideals.
