Talking Heads Assemble for SiriusXM Launch
The echoes of the New Wave are getting louder. Talking Heads, the pioneers who redefined post-punk, are trading the stage for the studio to dive deep into their legacy, launching a tribute that promises more than just hits—it promises a full, five-decade conversation about their musical journey.
This exciting new venture is the launch of Talking Heads Radio, a special SiriusXM pop-up channel dedicated to celebrating over fifty years of the music by David Byrne, Chris Frantz, Jerry Harrison, and Tina Weymouth. It’s a rare opportunity for fans to explore the deep cuts, exclusive stories, and the intricate history behind the band’s enduring sound.
The celebration kicks off on October 1, offering subscribers access to hits, deep cuts, exclusive commentary, and guest DJ sets through Channel 145, running until October 22. The centerpiece of the launch is a rare, full four-member conversation airing on launch day at noon ET, offering a unique glimpse into the creative process of these musical titans.
This renewed public focus follows a significant recent gathering. The quartet reunited in 2023 to celebrate the 40th anniversary restoration of Stop Making Sense, appearing together at the Toronto International Film Festival for a moderated Q&A with Spike Lee. While that appearance marked their first public meeting since their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2002, this new project shifts the focus from the stage to the studio, creating an immersive experience for listeners.
The connection between the members continues beyond the radio channel. Fans are invited to engage directly with the group through a special event on September 28 at 7 p.m. ET, featuring a live Front Row Q&A hosted by musician Este Haim at SiriusXM’s New York studios. Subscribers can submit video or voice messages about their favorite songs, the band’s impact, and questions for the group via the interactive submission page. Those who participate are also eligible to attend the live New York event in person on September 22, with no purchase necessary.
Beyond the classic tracks and the ongoing conversation, the channel promises updates on upcoming projects, particularly for David Byrne, whose creative output remains prolific. He is currently preparing for the release of an expanded edition of his latest solo album, Who Is the Sky?, which includes four bonus tracks. Furthermore, Byrne is gearing up for the release of his forthcoming book, Sleeping Beauties: Why Good Ideas Go Dormant and How They Wake Up, with supporting events planned across North America and the U.K.
