Adam Franklin song out now for The Still Out reissue

In the world of indie rock, some stories are simply destined to echo through time. The Still Out, a band born in the late 2000s by producers Josh Stoddard and Arjun “Arj” Agerwala, is currently embarking on a powerful creative journey, one rooted in memory, tribute, and renewed friendship.

Following the passing of Stoddard in 2021, Agerwala has taken on the vital task of reforming the group, choosing to reissue their 2008 album Crystallized as a heartfelt homage to his best friend and bandmate. This is more than just a retrospective; it is a literal record of their shared creative journey and bond.

The return of Crystallized is timed perfectly for Friday, August 21, when the album will be released in a deluxe, remastered edition, bringing the band’s vision back to the forefront. Agerwala shared the depth of this project, noting that recovering from Stoddard’s loss took nearly five years, and now he feels it is fitting to share the album and their creative history with the world.

The music itself is a rich tapestry, blending elements of alternative rock, metal-ly intensity, and shoegaze sounds. It captures a raw, dynamic energy that speaks to movement and vitality.

The renewed attention is highlighted by the release of a single, “Let the Listeners Hurt,” which features guest vocals and guitar from Swervedriver’s Adam Franklin. This track provides a fascinating glimpse into the band’s creative genesis. The demo for the song was built around Josh’s infectious bass riff, which eventually led to a collaboration where Franklin approached Stoddard to contribute his iconic lead guitar work and vocals.

The result was a loud and taut burst of dynamic intensity, a celebration that perfectly captured the essence of the group’s sound. This collaborative process demonstrated how the album’s themes of shared creation and enduring connection are reflected in the music.

To enhance this legacy, the reissue of Crystallized has been remastered by Greg Calbi and Steve Fallone and includes three bonus tracks, offering rare live recordings from a show at Arlene’s Grocery in NYC featuring Mikey from Swervedriver on drums.

The Still Out are now set to bring this renewed energy to the stage. They will be supporting Swervedriver on the ‘Raise at 35’ tour, performing at the White Eagle Hall in New Jersey on August 28 and continuing on August 29 at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn.
