Dinosaur Jr celebrates new LP with 4 NYC shows
Dinosaur Jr. is bringing the raw, essential sound of their new album There Near to the city in a celebration that is as intimate as it is electric. Fender and Show Brain have announced a four-night New York takeover, offering fans a chance to dive deep into the band’s sound alongside a rotating cast of fellow musicians.
Dubbed The One for New York, this special series runs from August 27 to 29, spotlighting Dinosaur Jr. amid a collection of celebrated acts. The lineup includes Marc Ribot’s Ceramic Dog, Steve Gunn, the Thurston Moore Group, They Are Gutting a Body of Water, Mike Kinsella of American Football, and Snail Mail, providing a diverse and compelling musical tapestry across the city.
The foundation of this release is rooted in authenticity. Vocalist and guitarist J Mascis sought to reconnect with Dinosaur Jr.’s original sonic identity by digging out a 1970s Mesa Boogie MK 1 amp—the very model used on the band’s earliest recordings—to shape the sound of There Near.
This dedication to the roots spirit translates directly into the live experience. The shows are scheduled across iconic New York venues, offering a unique blend of history and contemporary indie rock. The weekend kicks off at Lucinda’s with Dinosaur Jr. joined by Ribot’s Ceramic Dog.
The celebration continues with appearances at Skinny Dennis featuring Steve Gunn, followed by a daytime performance at Maria Hernandez Park in Bushwick with the Thurston Moore Group and They Are Gutting a Body of Water. The festival atmosphere continues that evening with a bill featuring Mike Kinsella and Snail Mail.
These city-wide events are designed to be accessible. Performances at Lucinda’s, Skinny Dennis, and Maria Hernandez Park are free with an RSVP and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Limited tickets will be available for the Baby’s All Right show, adding an extra layer of exclusivity to the lineup.
The energy and raw talent showcased during this New York run set the stage for what is to come. Following the city celebrations, Dinosaur Jr. will kick off a fall headlining tour in support of There Near, commencing on October 9 in Las Vegas.
