Starcleaner Reunion Unveils ‘Umbrella‘ and a Journey Through Anticipation

NYC-based group Starcleaner Reunion has officially launched their debut album, Umbrella, set to arrive on September 25th via Take Care. This new collection isn’t just a body of work; it’s a carefully crafted sonic landscape built from the band’s own production, mixing by Reuben Radlauer of Model/Actriz, and masterfully overseen by Hebra Kadry. The debut promises to be an immersive experience for listeners ready to explore complex emotional territory.

The album features a dynamic range, including tracks like Weather Instrument, which premiered in May, alongside the highly anticipated single Never Odd or Even. This new offering immediately draws comparisons to influential acts like Stereolab, successfully melding loungey tropicalia rhythms with intricate psych-pop structures. The sound is rich, weaving melody and propulsive energy into a deeply hypnotic experience.

Never Odd or Even perfectly encapsulates the band’s aesthetic, delving into themes of shared secrets and internal tension. Singer Jo Roman describes the song’s mood as an exploration of a push and pull dynamic—mimicking the trajectory between exciting anticipation and unimaginable darkness. “Some of them can be entertaining while others could reveal dark things,” Roman explains, noting how the music mirrors the experience of a personal secret leaving its protective space in someone’s mind.

The musical structure itself reflects this internal conflict. The song skillfully bounces between propulsive motorik rushes and 5/4 waltz rhythms, creating a sonic metaphor for that elusive state of excitement and depth.

As the band prepares to connect with audiences live, they are gearing up for an ambitious fall tour. Starcleaner Reunion will be hitting the road supporting Blondshell across the West Coast, offering fans a chance to experience this intricate sound in person.

Before embarking on the tour, the band is set to make an appearance at the 2026 edition of NYC’s free Emerging Music Festival on Saturday, August 22nd in Bryant Park. They will share the stage with other notable acts, including Heathers, Magi Merlin, and Lowertown, adding another layer of cultural richness to the event.

The track list for Umbrella offers a compelling journey: Theme, Maschine Mockup, Never Odd or Even, Pasillo Piso, Eating the Alphabet, Tea Drops Park, Brittle On My Finger, Headlamp Hiker, Weather Instrument, Docking In Oslo, and Lay On Plastic Moment.

The upcoming schedule signals a broad reach for the band. The tour dates span from New York through to California, hitting major cities including San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, and Detroit, ensuring that the sound of Starcleaner Reunion will resonate across the entire region throughout the autumn.
