Esoteric’s penchant for odd pairings has led to some genuinely memorable moments in the music scene. One recent instance involved Kurt Vile shouting out Czarface—a collective featuring longtime associates 7L and Wu-Tang Clan member Inspectah Deck—during a Pitchfork video. This declaration culminated in an impromptu onstage link-up at a Boston show, where Esoteric got to spit bars over “Bassackwards” with Vile.
The unusual connections don’t stop there. Czarface is currently gearing up for their new album, Czarface Meets Frankie Pulitzer, which brings an even more unexpected guest: the acclaimed producer El-P. This feature is anything but a surprise, considering El-P has a history of targeting 7L and Esoteric during Aesop Rock’s We’re Famous in 2003.
The surprise continues with the inclusion of Frankie Pulitzer on the forthcoming project. While many might know him as actor Tom Hardy, his involvement adds another layer of fascinating unpredictability to Czarface’s musical journey.
