Susanna Hoffs announces new album The List with Rufus Wainwright

The world of music is buzzing with news from Susanna Hoffs, the iconic figure behind The Bangles, who has unveiled her most personal project yet: a solo album titled The List.

This new body of work is not just a collection of songs; it is an intimate journey into her deepest memories spanning a decade. Hoffs has woven these recollections into twelve carefully crafted tracks, inviting listeners into a tapestry of reflection and vibrant feeling. The project features an impressive array of guest musicians, including the celebrated Rufus Wainwright, alongside talents such as Dan Wilson of Semisonic, Edie Brickell of Paul Simon, Greg Leisz, Ryan Lerman, Desure, Jesse Harris, and more.

The inspiration behind The List is rooted in moments of cinematic romance and surreal encounters. The album draws energy from a rewatch of the classic film Casablanca and the whimsical memory of an impromptu walk through the French Quarter in 1988, where Hoffs encountered Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead. These memories fuel songs exploring themes of possibility and what might have been.

At the heart of the record is a powerful declaration of personal liberation. Through the voice of the story’s protagonist, Jane Start, Hoffs explores finding courage to break free from expectation and claim her own spotlight—a true musical anthem for artistic freedom.

The album was thoughtfully recorded in Hoffs’ Los Angeles home and expertly produced by CJ Camerieri. Beyond the core narrative, the project also features compelling tracks like What Are Wings For, a musical adaptation of her debut novel, This Bird Has Flown.
