Talking Heads reunite for SiriusXM launch with Este Haim
The iconic musical duo Talking Heads is set to dive deep into the sounds of their legacy with a brand-new venture on SiriusXM. They will be launching Talking Heads Radio, a channel dedicated to five decades of music featuring the work of David Byrne, Chris Frantz, Tina Weymouth, and Jerry Harrison.
This new platform promises more than just a playlist; it offers an intimate look behind the scenes, including a special conversation between the members. The project will stream five decades of their celebrated catalogue, culminating in a reflective discussion that offers listeners a rare glimpse into the creative process of the group.
The launch will run from October 1 to October 22 on in-car satellite radios, followed by availability on the SiriusXM app until October 31. The centerpiece of the launch will be a special conversation aired at noon on launch day, which will be anchored by a Q&A session hosted by Este Haim. The recording for this reflective chat took place live in front of an audience in New York on September 28.
This latest collaboration marks another significant reunion for the ’80s pioneers. The group had already made their first public appearance together in 2023, celebrating the anniversary of their legendary concert film, Stop Making Sense, with a Q&A at the Toronto International Film Festival.
When the possibility of performing together resurfaced, the dynamic shifted. Tina Weymouth noted that the group was simply savouring the moment, emphasizing the joy of the connection rather than the logistics of recreating past performances.
The history of their potential return has been punctuated by candid reflections. Chris Frantz shared his perspective on the possibility of further live collaboration, recalling that the last time they tried it was nearly two decades ago. He admitted that the prospect of asking that question again was a difficult one.
David Byrne, meanwhile, maintained a more philosophical stance on revisiting their musical origins. He suggested that trying to exactly recreate the feeling of their youth and the moment they first discovered that music would be Talking Heads Radio is poised to deliver a rich, nostalgic, and deeply engaging experience for fans of New Wave and influential 20th-century music.
