Ready to Dive into Creator Economy Projects and Startups

The music industry is buzzing with new opportunities for founders, and an exciting partnership is set to put early-stage innovators directly in the spotlight. Music Tectonics is expanding its annual Swimming with Narwhals startup pitch competition by teaming up with the Yamaha Music Innovations Fund.

This collaboration aims to bridge the gap between brilliant new ideas and the investment capital needed to bring them to life. The new focus is specifically on attracting very early-stage startups—those still in the idea stage or with products less than a year old—ensuring that the next wave of music technology entrepreneurs receive the exposure they deserve.

The goal isn’t just about showcasing music innovation; it’s about fostering the entire creator economy and technology sector. Eligible companies are encouraged to come from across the broader media, entertainment, and creator economy fields, demonstrating that groundbreaking ideas don’t have to be confined solely to traditional music production.

How does this opportunity work? Founders can apply for the competition, which culminates at the Music Tectonics Conference in Santa Monica, California, from October 27–29. This live event provides a platform for finalists to pitch their concepts directly to major venture capital firms and industry leaders.

The selection process is structured to provide maximum visibility. A panel of investors will first select semifinalists, who will present their ideas during an online pre-conference session before advancing to the main competition in October.

This ecosystem is designed to create tangible connections. Previous participants have successfully leveraged these early appearances to secure significant funding. For instance, companies like the AI audio platform AudioShake and the creator engagement startup Fave used their presence at Music Tectonics to gain crucial visibility with investors before raising major funding rounds.

Andrew Kahn, Managing Partner of the Yamaha Music Innovations Fund, emphasizes the mission behind this partnership. “If this is your first pitch, this is the competition for you. If you have a brilliant idea and stellar deck but are just at the beginning of your journey, you’re the person we’re looking for,” he noted.

The partnership reinforces the mission of the Yamaha Music Innovations Fund, which launched in 2025 with the objective of investing in early-stage founders building technology that fundamentally changes how culture is made, shared, and experienced. By inviting these nascent companies, the organizers are actively helping identify entrepreneurs with truly promising ideas at their earliest stages of development.

The opportunity to participate is wide open for innovators looking to connect, pitch, and grow in an environment built for disruptive thinking. Those eager to take part can find details on how to apply for the next cycle, which runs from July 15 through August 7.
