The roots of this electrifying festival trace back to the vision of PhD scholar Alain Mongeau, who launched MUTEK in the year 2000. Mongeau’s journey into electronic music was a fascinating cross-cultural odyssey. In the 1990s, he dove deep into rave culture, drawing inspiration from global events like the Interference Festival at Love Parade in Berlin, the energy of Sónar in Barcelona, and the infectious sounds of German duo Sun Electric.

Mongeau admitted that while Europe attracted him, life circumstances—specifically having a child—meant he had to remain rooted in Canada.
