MCR plays ‘The Light Behind Your Eyes’ live in Phoenix with a tribute
As the band My Chemical Romance continued their epic North American tour celebrating the anniversary of their seminal album, Long Live The Black Parade, they delivered a setlist filled with powerful nostalgia and deeply personal tributes.
One of the most moving moments occurred in Phoenix, where the band played live for the first time, paying homage to the late guitarist and wrestler Andy Williams. During the performance, frontman Gerard Way chose to dedicate the track Boy Division to Williams, recognizing his legacy within the music scene.
The tribute extended beyond a simple performance. As the band transitioned to a B-stage, Way and his co-performers performed material from the 2013 Conventional Weapons EP. This included the track Boy Division, a compilation of material from the band’s Danger Days era, which served as a heartfelt nod to Williams.
Way shared the personal significance of this choice, explaining that the song was dedicated to his daughter, and he viewed it as a piece of sentiment he wished to leave for her.
Adding another layer of emotion, the band also played The Light Behind Your Eyes for the first time live. This song, which holds personal meaning for Way, was dedicated to his daughter and featured strings played by Scarlet Ending’s guest, Kayleigh Goldsworthy, a longtime session musician for the group.
The show was packed with high-energy performance, featuring other beloved cuts from their catalog, such as AMBULANCE and Save Yourself, I’ll Hold Them Back, further solidifying the emotional impact of their performance.
