MCR announces ‘Black Parade’ reissue with Sharpest Lives performance
Twenty years ago, My Chemical Romance delivered an album that didn’t just mark a shift in music; it marked a revolution. Now, the emo icons are celebrating two decades of impact by announcing a massive, expanded reissue of their seminal work, ‘The Black Parade’.
Set to hit shelves on October 23 via Reprise Records, this anniversary package offers fans the original tracklist alongside six exclusive bonus tracks, breathing new life into one of rock history’s most enduring concepts. The celebration is further enhanced by the newly available streaming of ‘The Sharpest Lives (Live from Hoboken)’, a live recording that had previously only been accessible on a DVD.
The bonus material dives deep into the band’s history, offering a window into the creation of the album. Three of the bonus tracks are electrifying live recordings from the band’s performance at the 200-capacity Maxwell venue in Hoboken, featuring Gerard Way and company from October 2007. The remaining tracks are fan-favorite B-sides that have been scattered across various releases, including the never-before-released ‘Someone Out There Loves You’.
The band reflected on the journey in their announcement, sharing that they sought to create a single collection that included everything they finished during those defining sessions. They also brought in artist James Jean, the creator of the iconic cover art, to collaborate on three new pieces of art, resulting in a beautiful collection of reimagined characters from that era.
“We celebrate the release and everything we finished during those sessions,” the members shared. “We wanted to honour how timeless and enduring you’ve allowed it to be.”
The physical release options cater to both the die-hard fan and the collector. The reissue will be available in a 2LP version, a 1LP edition hologram vinyl, and a unique One Step vinyl package, limited to just 7,000 copies and created using the original analogue master recordings.
This anniversary moment comes as the band continues their road journey, performing the classic album in full during their ‘Long Live The Black Parade’ anniversary tour. They are currently underway with the North American dates, where they continue to explore their legacy, playing everything from iconic tracks to deep cuts, connecting their enduring sound with the passionate audience they command.
