The news was confirmed by Portillo’s family on Monday, August 24, following an incident that occurred just before he was scheduled to take the stage at the Rodeo Texcoco event in Chicoloapan, Estado de México. Portillo was reportedly shot by unknown individuals outside the venue.
In a statement released by the family, they emphasized that their absolute priority was Portillo’s life, his recovery, and his safety. They confirmed that while Portillo was the victim of the attack, no other members of the band were injured during the incident.
The incident occurred during a performance that was part of the event “Los 4 Patrones de Tierra Caliente,” which featured other popular groups from the regional music genre.
