Outlaw Legend Finds New Audience Through Indie Roots

In the later chapters of his career, Nashville-based outlaw country legend Chris Gantry is experiencing an unexpected resurgence, fueled by a strong connection with the indie music community surrounding Chicago’s Drag City Records.

Gantry’s journey into alternative sounds has seen him collaborate and release work that bridges the gap between traditional country roots and more experimental musical landscapes. This connection has allowed his unique voice to reach new ears, proving that the outlaw spirit always finds a way to wander.

The collaboration doesn’t start in the modern era. Back in 2017, Drag City Records helped bring back some of Gantry’s previously lost material when they reissued his album At The House Of Cash>.

His willingness to explore diverse artistic territory continued with further collaborations. In 2019, he shared a creative partnership with Bill Callahan, releasing “Box Of Crayons,” a track featured on the Jerry David DeCicca-produced record Nashlantis>.

Since those early projects, Gantry has continued to carve his path by releasing material independently, including The Outlaw Bible on Steadyboy Records.

Now, as he moves into this new phase, anticipation is high for his latest offering. This year, Gantry will be returning with the album Worth Every Nail, released on Appalachia Record Co.
