Gal Gadot slams DC for cancelling Wonder Woman 3 and Cavill exit
The landscape of the DC Extended Universe has undergone significant shifts, marked by creative restructuring and some very public disagreements among the stars. At the center of this narrative is the reaction of longtime stars to recent decisions made by DC Studios, particularly concerning the fate of Wonder Woman and the departure of Henry Cavill.
Gal Gadot, who spearheaded the first female-led entry in the DCEU, Wonder Woman, voiced her disappointment regarding the direction the franchise took. She publicly criticized the studio for cancelling the planned third film and the subsequent departure of Cavill from the role of Superman.
Gadot’s journey through the universe included her starring in the original film, which paved the way for the sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, and later cameos in other major DC projects like The Flash.
As the DCEU concluded in 2023, DC Studios transitioned to a new continuity known as the DC Universe, helmed by James Gunn. This change meant that the previous creative teams and stars were no longer part of the new strategic plans.
The saga surrounding Superman was particularly complex. In December 2022, Henry Cavill announced he would not be reprising the role, despite earlier assurances. While some speculated about a formal firing, Gunn later clarified that Cavill was simply never cast for the rebooted character.
Despite the studio’s decisions, Gadot reflected on the experience in a thoughtful manner. Speaking to the Happy Sad Confused podcast, she expressed disappointment about how the creative process unfolded, noting that the handling of the situation involving Cavill was unfortunate.
However, Gadot ultimately adopted a philosophical stance, suggesting that the focus should be on the present. “I feel like we’re all adults and it’s all good,” she stated. “It’s not even about them. They are there and they’re there to do what they believe in, and it’s all good.”
The future of the DC Universe continues to unfold, with David Corenswet set to take over the role of Superman in 2025. Meanwhile, the follow-up project, Supergirl, did not achieve the box office success anticipated, making less money than some other notorious cinematic disappointments.
