This track, a reimagining of their 2023 hit ‘Blue’, serves as a poignant preview of their forthcoming seventh studio album, Anatomy Of A Brief Romance, which will be released on September 11 via Contagious Music.
The new music dives deep into the complexities of love and loss, chronicling the tumultuous experience of new romance. The track Lagoon Blue was penned during a period when frontman Kele Okereke was navigating the exhilarating, yet ultimately dissolving, first throes of a new relationship. Okereke shared that the song captures the feeling of love returning when it felt impossible, acknowledging that the full story of the relationship is much bigger than a single beat.
The album itself, Anatomy Of A Brief Romance, is structured like a personal memoir, offering a deeply personal look at emotional landscapes. The band explored themes of heartache, evidenced by tracks like ‘Now We Can’t Be Friends’ and ‘Pigwig’, providing an honest reflection on the messy reality of feeling. The demand for this raw, emotional material has fueled an unprecedented surge in activity, as the band has added numerous dates to their UK record store tour. Kicking off tomorrow night, September 9, the tour features several extra performances due to phenomenal response. The schedule is packed with iconic venues, including shows at Wax and Beans @ The Mets, Bury, Banquet @ Circuit, Kingston, and multiple stops at Rough Trade locations in Nottingham, Bristol, and London.
Beyond the record store run, the band continues to demonstrate their global reach. They are set to embark on a UK and European co-headline tour alongside Interpol later this year, and they recently opened for Muse at select gigs across North America.
