Animal Collective plays Feels In Full in four years
Four years have passed since the four members of Animal Collective last shared the stage together, but the creative current flowing through the collective remains strong and vibrant. In the interim, the members have pursued a rich tapestry of solo projects, collaborations, and deeply personal musical explorations, proving that the rhythm of the group continues long after their joint performances.
The individual output has been prolific. Animal Collective released the album Isn’t It Now?, a work that found its place as the soundtrack to the drama The Inspection by Elegance Bratton. They also revisited celebrated works with new editions, including reissues of Sung Tongs and the deluxe reissue of Feels.
Beyond the group’s efforts, the individual artists have carved out their own sonic territories. Geologist released his first solo album, Can I Get A Pack Of Camel Lights?, and has contributed to John Cale’s MERCY. Further demonstrating this solo momentum, Geologist and Kyle Simon created with light from the moon, which is set to be released next month.
The group’s creative energy extended into collaborative ventures that expanded their soundscape. Avey Tare teamed up with Geologist for the project Croz Boyce, and the members enlisted Panda Bear for a single, Vampire Tongues, showcasing the wide network of talent they interact with.
Panda Bear has also released compelling material, including Sinister Grift, alongside other projects like the Reset Mariachi EP and the LP A ? Of When, further demonstrating the depth of the collective’s influence in the music world.
This creative synergy has also translated into cinematic soundscapes. Animal Collective and Deakin contributed to the soundtrack for Sam Fleischner’s documentary Jetty, alongside Geologist, further solidifying their role as architects of atmospheric sound.
The momentum culminated in a significant milestone for the group: Animal Collective achieved their first-ever gold record status with the single My Girls in January. This success underscores the power of their unique vision and their ability to connect with audiences.
As they continue their artistic journey, the collective remains poised for new explorations, ready to engage listeners with the depth and complexity of their evolving sound.
