Decades apart, a legendary rock trio has reignited the flame, delivering the high-volume joy fans have waited decades for. Bob Mould, David Barbe, and Malcolm Travis are not just reuniting; they are continuing a powerful momentum with new music.
The trio recently unveiled “Keep Looping”, their third recording released in recent months following their first works more than thirty years ago. This fresh offering follows the success of “Long Live Love” and “House of Dead Memories,” extending the powerful comeback that fans witnessed at events like New York’s Webster Hall.
The new track is a perfect blend of nostalgia and contemporary edge, carrying the signature intensity the group is known for. For David Barbe, the song resonated deeply, calling it his favorite release from the current run. He noted how the combination of the main riff’s intensity and the elevation of the bridge had him stuck in his head.
The reunion has sparked more than just musical excitement; it has opened up a conversation about the modern world. When discussing the new material, Mould touched on the complex relationship with technology, stating, “Living in San Francisco, I have a love/hate relationship with AI.” He pondered the impact of this new technology, questioning what the cost is to society and the environment.
Mould’s lyrics reflect this internal tension perfectly: “A touch of dopamine. The steady beat of the drum. Get used to the constant hum of the Lie.”
The shared experience also brought forth profound reflections on live performance. Mould expressed his enduring enthusiasm for live music, emphasizing how much joy it brings to be on the road with Sugar. He noted the genuine engagement of audiences—a stark contrast to modern habits—finding hope in seeing people fully immersed in the moment without distractions.

As the tour continues, the band is heading back to North America for a 24-show run starting August 11 in Denver. Highlights include sold-out performances at Minneapolis’ First Avenue, where Mould famously rocked out alongside his former band, Hüsker Dü. Furthermore, the band is committed to giving back, with a portion of every ticket sold benefiting the Trevor Project.
