Maisie Peters talks ‘Florescence’ and Reading 2026 show “I can’t fathom it”
Maisie Peters brought a wave of blossoming energy to the Reading 2026 festival this past weekend, delivering a dynamic performance that served as a perfect celebration of her musical evolution.
On the main stage, now known as The Grid, Peters unleashed a “megamix” of songs spanning her entire discography. Reflecting on the experience, she noted how full-circle the moment felt, recalling her first performance at the Reading festival, which marked the release of her debut album.
The focus, naturally, was on her third album, Florescence, which arrived in May. Critics immediately recognized the album’s theme, awarding it a four-star review that described the record as documenting Peters’ own “blossoming,” perfectly mirroring a period of personal growth.
Peters explained that the creative process behind Florescence was deeply personal. She stated that she intentionally documented her life during the writing of the albums, aiming for a more grounded perspective. Sonically and lyrically, the album captured a time when she felt calm and stable, a feeling she found after a period of touring and travel.
This newfound stability allowed her to explore collaborative songwriting. Florescence was the first record to feature collaborations with artists like Julia Michaels and Marcus Mumford. These sessions provided the necessary time and space for experimentation, leading to tracks like Kingmaker and If You Let Me.
The inspiration for these partnerships was clear: Peters has long admired Julia Michaels, a songwriter who has been a profound influence on her musical journey. Collaborating with Michaels felt like a dream come true, transforming songwriting into a shared experience.
The journey continued with a trip to Nashville, where she performed Florescence at the storied Grand Ole Opry. She shared the sheer joy of performing there, noting how the house band learned her songs, adding a unique layer to the experience.
Looking ahead, Peters is setting her sights on even grander milestones. Her next major goal is to headline London’s The O2 in 2027. While she admitted she still can’t fully fathom the scale of it, she is excited for the possibility. She even teased ideas for the show, hinting at horseback themes and a spectacle reminiscent of Ariana Grande’s performances.
