Bonnaroo hits pause in 2027
The dream of Bonnaroo, the sprawling, legendary music festival based in Manchester, Tennessee, is hitting pause. Organizers have announced that the festival will be taking a much-needed hiatus in 2027, stepping away for a period of rest and recovery after a string of challenging years marked by severe weather cancellations.
This decision comes after years of dealing with Mother Nature’s unpredictable moods. Bonnaroo has faced countless interruptions, including cancellations due to severe flooding in 2021, the disruption of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and weather-related cuts in previous years. The festival, which launched in 2002, has proven its resilience, but the repeated setbacks have necessitated a strategic pause.
The current decision stems from the need for the venue and the campgrounds to truly recover. In preparation for the 2026 festival, organizers invested heavily in revitalizing the area. This included significant infrastructure improvements, such as enhanced drainage systems, the construction of 4.5 miles of new roadways, and the planting of 135 acres of new grass, all aimed at strengthening the Farm’s ability to withstand natural challenges.
Despite these impressive recovery efforts, consecutive years of storms, including the heavy rain experienced recently, have left the organization needing a dedicated period to recuperate. As one spokesperson noted, the main venue and the entire festival grounds require a break to rest and recharge before they can deliver the experience fans expect.
This was not an easy call, reflecting the deep commitment the team has to the festival. “This wasn’t an easy decision, and not one we take lightly,” organizers stated. “In our hearts, we know this break will only make Bonnaroo better.”
While the pause may feel like a setback to longtime attendees, organizers are hopeful that this time away will allow them to return in 2027 stronger and more resilient than ever before. They extend a heartfelt thank you to the community for their continued love and support of the festival.
Before this hiatus, fans were given a chance to shape the festival’s future. Following the cancellation in 2025, organizers conducted a survey, asking the community to weigh in on crucial aspects of the festival’s direction, including where and when the event should be held, and its evolving musical focus.
Bonnaroo remains a fixture in the music landscape, and while the festival takes a moment to breathe, the spirit of the community and the legacy of the music continue to grow.
