King Gizzard Raving On New LP Track

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are pushing the boundaries of electronic psychedelia with their latest offering, Alien Metal, a pounding track slated for their forthcoming 28th studio album. This new piece serves as an electrifying continuation of their experimental journey into synthetic soundscapes.

The foundation for this sonic exploration was laid during the creation of their earlier electronic work, The Silver Cord. That project was born almost entirely on the band’s sprawling modular synthesizer rig, “Nathan,” culminating from a single hour-long improvisation in F#. After navigating several discarded versions of the project, the group found the definitive identity of the album during that intense late-night session.

Alien Metal throws listeners headfirst into an interstellar rave transmission. The track is defined by relentless four-on-the-floor beats, clattering synth sequences, and heavily processed vocals that create a dense electronic pulse. Surreal lyrics about a “summer breeze laced with PCP,” “astral blacksmith[s],” and “interstellar reality” drift through the music, immersing the listener in a genuinely futuristic atmosphere.

The band’s visual identity is equally striking. The accompanying visualizer, crafted by longtime creative collaborator Jason Galea, amplifies the song’s otherworldly tone. Galea photographed the striking album artwork—a glossy, metallic skull adorned with oversized black eyes and exposed circuitry—using medium-format film. Shot on Cinestill 800T stock under fluorescent lighting, Galea sought to create a more “sterile look” while using bounced light to give the alien figure a natural glow, allowing the veins and eyes to shine just enough.

As King Gizzard continues its electronic experimentation this fall, they are bringing the sound live across Australia. The band has announced an upcoming run of dates beginning October 13 in Thirroul before moving to Sydney for shows, including a late-night rave at Liberty Hall. They will cap off their tour with a two-day takeover of Melbourne’s Croxton Block Party, where they will curate lineups featuring artists like Shonen Knife, Babe Rainbow, C.O.F.F.I.N., ORB, and Gut Health.

Alien Metal is set to be released later this summer via the band’s own p(doom) label. Fans will have the chance to experience this sonic voyage live, and the album may also align with the band’s upcoming Field of Vision festival in Buena Vista, Co., or a four-night run at New York venues like Forest Hills Stadium and Under the K Bridge.
