Fontaines D.C. preview new single ‘Marianne’ and fifth album news

The industrial force of Fontaines D.C. is not slowing down; a powerful wave of new material and album anticipation is sweeping through the music world.

The Dublin outfit has recently dropped hints about their next chapter, previewing the intense new single Marianne and confirming that their fifth studio album is well on its way. This fresh release builds on the raw, electric energy they showcased during their debut headline performances in Spain earlier this year.

The track Marianne carries a cinematic weight, echoing the band’s characteristic blend of frenetic rhythm and sweeping strings. Guitarist Grian Chatten captures the atmosphere perfectly when discussing the song: “This year, you should come and stay here / You can follow my lead, I can help you disappear / Cinematic feeling, understand this is your life / You can go on dreaming, you can go under the knife / Marianne, this could be your fatal match.”

Adding another layer to the sonic preview, the band also released a snippet of another unreleased track, Six Shot Morning, which introduced a spacey, synth-led aesthetic. These new sounds demonstrate the creative momentum building within the group.

The anticipation for the new music is mirrored by the band’s commitment to constant creation. When asked about their process, bassist Conor Deegan III shared that writing is an unstoppable force: “It’s one of those things where we can’t stop writing – it’s something that we just do when we’re with each other.”

Guitarist Carlos O’Connell echoed this enthusiasm, noting that they have been actively working on new material. He suggested that testing songs by playing unpolished new material at festivals is a great way to gauge the reception: “If there is stuff written, then I would say so, yeah. That’s what we used to do all the time, play the new stuff life – songs that weren’t even finished. It’s a good way to test the songs.”

The band’s progression continues, evidenced by their recent visual update. In a post shared on Instagram, the five-piece featured in the photograph was simply captioned “5,” a clear nod to the upcoming follow-up after their previous record, Romance.

Fontaines D.C. are now gearing up for an extensive European tour, heading through France, Switzerland, and Austria, before taking the stage at major events like Reading & Leeds and Electric Picnic later in the year. This return to the stage follows a period of reflection, including their performance following the passing of manager Trevor Dietz.

The band continues to evolve, delivering raw, compelling music that pushes boundaries while feeding the hunger for the next great album.
