Cartwright predicts when The Simpsons will end
When you talk about the enduring legacy of The Simpsons, it’s easy to wonder how long this iconic family saga will continue. Recently, voice actress Nancy Cartwright shared her thoughts on the show’s potential future, offering a perspective that touches on both longevity and the very nature of creativity.
When asked about when the animated comedy might conclude, Cartwright gave a clear answer: 40 seasons. This figure lines up with the show’s contractual limits, which allow for up to 40 seasons, with the final series slated to air in 2029.
Despite this extended run, Cartwright expressed a commitment that goes beyond mere contractual obligation. When questioned by Inside Of You podcast host Michael Rosenbaum about whether she would remain involved if the show continued past forty seasons, her response was emphatic: “Absolutely.”
Reflecting on her long tenure with the characters, Cartwright also touched upon a deeper philosophical point regarding artistic evolution. She made it clear that while she would happily continue, her faith rests in human emotion and passion rather than artificial intelligence.
The Simpsons has proven to be more than just a television program; it is a reflection of human experience, filled with heart and humor. Cartwright suggested that the essential ingredient missing from technological replacements like AI is genuine feeling. “AI might sound pretty close to Nancy Cartwright,” she mused, “but I got passion. We’re spiritual beings, we can emote passion and uplift people and stuff. And I don’t know that a computer can do something like that.”
Adding another layer of meta-narrative to the franchise history is the unfolding story of its cinematic universe. Fans were recently spotted anticipating a sequel to The Simpsons Movie, and this time, Bart Simpson made his own prediction.
During an episode in season 19, Bart famously wrote on the chalkboard: “I will not wait 20 years to make another movie.” And it seems that creator Matt Groening delivered that prophecy just two years later. The much-anticipated sequel to The Simpsons Movie is now scheduled to arrive on July 23, 2027, fulfilling Bart’s timeline and continuing the legendary adventure in Springfield.
