Bret Michaels axes tour dates for surgery recovery
Bret Michaels Pauses Tour to Focus on Recovery After Kidney Stone Surgery
Rock legend Bret Michaels, known for his high-energy performances and enduring career, has taken an unexpected pause in his live music schedule. Following recent surgery to address a kidney stone, the singer has cancelled all planned solo shows to dedicate himself to a full recovery.
The necessary pause comes after Michaels experienced significant pain in June while performing three dates in the United States. During these performances, he dealt with intense discomfort related to his kidney stone, leading him to seek medical attention. He was quickly hospitalized and underwent surgery to remove the stone and install a ureteral stent.
After the procedure, Michaels shared an update with his devoted fanbase, confirming that the operation was successful. While he was eager to continue performing, he determined that he needed time away from the spotlight to ensure he was fully healed and recovered.
The decision to step back was supported by his medical team. Physicians advised that Michaels needed extended rest and recovery, particularly considering the intense summer heat and humidity, which can impact blood sugar levels. They emphasized the importance of a slow, careful healing process.
Though he returned to the stage for one performance in Sugar Hill, Georgia, on August 21st, Michaels has decided to postpone all remaining dates for the rest of the year. This decision allows him to focus entirely on healing and getting back to full strength.
The musician expressed his gratitude for the support he received during his health struggles, noting how vital family, friends, fans, doctors, and nurses were throughout his recovery journey. As he works toward his full health, he remains committed to eventually sharing his music with the same energy and passion he is known for.
Michaels’ artistic journey is also taking a turn toward reflection. He is currently in the process of preparing a biopic titled Unbroken: Then, Now and Forever, which is slated for release later this year. This project provides another opportunity for him to reflect on his life and the resilience required to navigate both the challenges of performing and personal health.
