Amyl and the Sniffers lasso country

The punk rock energy of Amyl And The Sniffers is about to get a whole lot warmer. After a successful run across Continental Europe, the Australian act has announced an exciting new direction: they are diving headfirst into the world of country music.

The news, delivered during their recent tour, signaled a creative shift that fans have been waiting for. In a post on social media, the band hinted at the upcoming project, revealing that a film showcasing them doing country covers of their own songs is on the horizon.

This isn’t a sudden whim; singer Amy Taylor has long harbored a desire to explore new musical landscapes. She previously shared her ambition to create an Australian country album, referencing artists like Chad Morgan and Slim Dusty, suggesting a desire to “shake things up” within the genre.

Amyl And The Sniffers have already built an impressive foundation. They have released three successful punk and rock albums, including their self-titled debut from 2019 and their sophomore effort, Comfort to Me, which garnered significant recognition, peaking at No. 2 on the ARIA Chart and winning for best independent punk album or EP at the 2022 AIR Awards.

Their most recent release, Cartoon Darkness, further solidified their status, peaking at No. 2 on the all-genres ARIA Chart and cracking the Billboard 200, while sweeping numerous awards including ARIAs for album of the year and a slew of APRA Music Awards.

The vision for this new project is being brought to life by established talents. Longtime collaborator John Angus Stewart, known for creating iconic music videos like “You’re a Star,” Jerkin, and Hertz, will helm the country film project. Production will be handled by Chris Chang and Jason Baum.

As the band prepares for this pivot, their current tour continues across Europe, with dates lined up through Friday, August 7th at Hot in the City at Trieste Estate, followed by festival spots spanning Poland, Croatia, Norway, Portugal, Denmark, Spain, the United Kingdom, Ireland and France. The journey is just getting started.

In the United States, the band will kick off their tour on October 1st with performances in Dallas, TX, setting the stage for this fresh, country-infused adventure to unfold.
