AC/DC brings out Dave Grohl for Highway to Hell
The final curtain call for AC/DC’s Power Up Tour brought an unexpected, electrifying twist to the celebration, as Australian rock legend Dave Grohl made a surprise appearance onstage.
During their show at the MetLife Stadium on October 2nd in New Jersey, the iconic rockers welcomed the frontman of the Foo Fighters to join them for a performance of “Highway to Hell.”
The addition of the Foo Fighters—a band known for their explosive energy—added an extra layer of rock history to the finale. The concert itself had already navigated some turbulence; the event was initially scheduled for September 25th but had been delayed by a Nor’easter storm, leading to its rescheduling for October 2nd.
Before the main event, the Foo Fighters had already played a significant role in the tour, stepping in to open for AC/DC in St. Louis on September 8th, filling the spot for The Pretty Reckless due to scheduling adjustments involving singer Taylor Momsen.
As the Foo Fighters launched into their set, Dave Grohl shared a reflection on the enduring spirit of rock music. He spoke about the foundational impact of the genre on his life, recalling watching the film Let There Be Rock as a young teenager.
“I saw that movie, I was 11 years old, and I said, ‘I want to do that for the rest of my f—king life.’ So here we are… I’m going to live my childhood dream again, tonight,” Grohl told the roaring audience, highlighting the powerful, visceral energy that rock music represents.
The MetLife performance marked the conclusion of AC/DC’s celebrated Power Up Tour, supporting the band’s 2020 album, which had achieved a monumental No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart.
As the concert concluded, AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson offered a final send-off to the fans, wishing everyone a good night and hoping for future gatherings.
