’10 Things I Hate About You’ Musical with Carly Rae Jepsen 2027
Get ready for a dose of teenage angst, epic romance, and Broadway brilliance, because a new musical adaptation of the iconic film 10 Things I Hate About You is hitting the Great White Way next summer.
Producer Mike Bosner announced the exciting news on Monday morning that the show is set to begin performances on August 17, 2027. This vibrant new production draws upon the timeless themes of growing up, self-discovery, and the joyful rebellion against expectation, all set against the backdrop of Padua High School.
The story behind the musical is grounded by a brilliant book co-written by award-winning talents Lena Dunham, the creator of Girls, and playwright Jessica Huang, known for her work on Mother of Exiles.
But the magic doesn’t stop at the script. The soundtrack for this spectacle is being crafted by a powerhouse team. Grammy nominee Carly Rae Jepsen is teaming up with Grammy-winner Ethan Gruska of boygenius to write the music and lyrics, ensuring the songs will be as catchy as they are emotionally resonant.
Guiding the theatrical vision is a distinguished team of musical titans. Tony winner Christopher Wheeldon, renowned for his work on MJ The Musical, will serve as the director and choreographer, while Grammy winner Tom Kitt, celebrated for his work on Next to Normal, will oversee all music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations.
The production takes a clever, modern retelling of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew and transplants it into the familiar halls of Padua High. Just as the original 1999 film launched the careers of stars like Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger, this musical taps into that same spirit of youthful defiance. It captures the essence of two sisters setting out to define themselves on their own terms.
Fans will also savor the nostalgia, knowing that the original film featured unforgettable moments, such as the legendary scene where Heath Ledger serenaded Julia Stiles with a sweet, croony cover of Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.
Casting details and additional creative team information will be revealed at a later date, promising even more exciting details about this upcoming theatrical event.
