The stage is set for a major musical event as the beloved teen movie 10 Things I Hate About You is getting a fresh, pop-infused reimagining for the Broadway stage. This adaptation promises to bring the classic story, which masterfully transplants Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew into a Seattle-area high school, to life with a vibrant, contemporary musical glow.

The creative team behind the project is a powerhouse, bringing together established talent to craft a spectacle. Carly Rae Jepsen is collaborating on the musical’s score with Grammy-winning songwriter and producer Ethan Gruska. The book for the production is penned by Lena Dunham, with input from playwright Jessica Huang, ensuring the story resonates with both cinematic nostalgia and modern sensibilities.

Guiding the entire production is the acclaimed director and choreographer, two-time Tony Award winner Christopher Wheeldon. Adding further musical depth and polish is Tom Kitt, who served as the music supervisor, arranger, and orchestrator for the project, ensuring the score is as rich and compelling as the story itself.

The adaptation takes the familiar, often witty world of the movie—which famously starred actors like Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles—and transforms it into a dazzling stage experience. It captures the enduring themes of navigating adolescence, romance, and the complex social minefield of high school, repackaging them for a new generation.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the curtain to rise on this dynamic production. Performances for this musical are slated to begin on August 17, 2027.

Casting details and further production announcements are still forthcoming, but the anticipation for this vibrant musical evolution of a classic teen tale is already building.
