Xbox attacks claims about GTA 6 on PlayStation
The Console Wars: Xbox Fires Back at Grand Theft Auto 6 Pre-order Rumors
The hype surrounding Grand Theft Auto 6 is palpable, but beneath the excitement, the intense competition for console dominance is heating up. Recent speculation regarding pre-order numbers has sparked a lively debate among gaming outlets, leading to a direct response from Xbox leadership.
Video game journalist Tom Warren recently shared a report suggesting that pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto 6 are heavily skewed toward the PlayStation 5. This observation, Warren noted, has caused even more alarm bells at Xbox, especially considering the company’s recent confirmations regarding potential layoffs and studio closures.
In response to these claims, Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball took to social media to address the rumors directly. Ball firmly disputed the notion that the Xbox platform is worried about the pre-order landscape.
“We are very happy with Grand Theft Auto 6 pre-orders,” Ball stated on X. He further argued that the title is breaking records for Xbox, and internal analysis shows the company’s share of pre-orders is matching its share of the console market. Ball labeled the circulating reports as false and not true.
The exchange quickly turned into a wider discussion about market share. When questioned by Warren about Xbox’s overall share of the console market, Ball prompted a deeper look into the competitive reality.
Fellow journalist Tom Henderson chimed in with an insightful query, asking whether the internal analysis showed a 1:3 ratio in console upgrades for Grand Theft Auto 6 compared to competitors. Henderson suggested that while pre-order skew might exist, it didn’t necessarily signal developer concern given the current industry climate.
Meanwhile, the focus remains firmly on the game itself. Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to launch on November 19 and is slated to perform optimally on the PlayStation 5. An enhanced version is also anticipated for the PlayStation 5 Pro, though exact details are still forthcoming.
The momentum continues through surrounding content, including the release of the Grand Theft Auto 6: Extended Look on Netflix. This cinematic hype has fueled the desire for the hardware, with many fans currently struggling to secure a PlayStation 5 Pro.
Adding to the collector fervor, Rockstar Games recently unveiled details for a special edition of the game. The “The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection” will feature a number of limited-edition products and will cost £349.99, though it will not include a copy of the game itself.
