Working Men’s Club drops intense new single ‘Devout’ with Atticus Ross
Working Men’s Club has returned with a fresh, intense sound, releasing the new single Devout, a track that signals a compelling new chapter for the band.
This latest release sees the group join forces with Grammy-winning composer Atticus Ross, bringing their signature electronica sound into a collaborative space that is both familiar and electrifying. The track builds with a looming, intense soundscape, rapidly increasing instrumentation layered over Sydney Minsky Sargeant’s distinctive, synth-inspired vocals.
While the sonic urgency and driving melodies remain consistent with their previous acclaimed work, ‘Devout’ introduces a deeper layer of emotional vulnerability. The music shifts, weaving in new, more abstract lyrical elements that invite listeners into a more introspective space.
Sargeant noted that the song felt like the right moment to return with something new, describing it as a way to put difficult thoughts and feelings out on the table. This shift in tone mirrors the journey of the artist, who has also explored this theme in his solo career, including his album Lunga.
Beyond the group’s output, Sargeant has expanded his creative reach through collaborations, contributing to the hallucinatory EP Demise Of Love with Daniel Avery and James Greenwood’s Ghost Culture, showcasing a willingness to explore complex emotional territories in his art.
The visual experience of the new single is equally engaging, featuring a new companion visualiser directed by Innerstrings and artwork designed by longtime collaborator SJ Hockett. This visual accompaniment enhances the immersive, cinematic feel of the music.
The momentum is building as Working Men’s Club prepares to tour across the UK next month, with dates lined up at the SWN Festival in Cardiff, Future Days in Birmingham, and Mutations in Brighton. They will also bring this new sound to London for a performance at Pitchfork in November.
