Wombats announce ‘Love Loss Desperation’ 20th anniversary tour
The world of indie music is buzzing with excitement as The Wombats prepare to celebrate two decades of their sound with a massive UK and European tour. They are marking the 20th anniversary of their breakthrough debut album, A Guide To Love, Loss & Desperation.
This milestone isn’t just about celebrating an album; it’s about reliving the chaotic, wonderful journey that led them from driving around the UK in their granny’s car to global stardom. The band is setting off on an epic road trip, kicking off in Paris on April 1st before hitting major cities like Cologne, Berlin, Munich, Amsterdam, and Antwerp, followed by four high-energy stops across the UK in Manchester, Glasgow, London, and Liverpool.
For every show on the itinerary, frontman Matthew ‘Murph’ Murphy and his band will honor their roots by diving deep into the debut record. The first half of the set will feature the entire album from start to finish, allowing fans to experience the history of their sound. The second half will be dedicated to smashing the dance floor with their biggest hits and fan favorites from across their discography, promising a night of pure, unforgettable energy.
Drummer Dan Haggis summed up the sentiment, reflecting on the album’s significance. “A Guide To Love, Loss and Desperation was a culmination of the first four years of life in The Wombats, it catapulted us from driving around the UK in my granny’s car and sleeping on promoters floors, all the way to touring the world,” he shared, emphasizing the raw, lived experience woven into the music.
The debut album itself is a collection of gems, featuring iconic tracks that immediately put the band on the map, including classics like ‘Let’s Dance to Joy Division’, ‘Kill the Director’, and ‘Moving to New York’. Since then, The Wombats have continued to evolve, releasing acclaimed records such as ‘This Modern Glitch’, ‘Glitterbug’, ‘Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life’, and most recently, ‘Oh! The Ocean’, which recently topped the UK Official Albums Chart.
Beyond the music, the band’s story is filled with unexpected moments. Murphy recalled a quirky celebrity encounter involving the viral sensation Addison Rae, who posted a TikTok dance to one of their songs. It was a surreal moment, highlighting how music connects with audiences in unexpected, digital ways. This blend of serious artistic achievement and pop culture whimsy perfectly captures the unique spirit of The Wombats.
Fans looking to celebrate two decades of indie sleaze and musical evolution won’t want to miss this opportunity. Tickets are now on sale and available for purchase, offering an invitation to join The Wombats on their grand 20th-anniversary tour.
