Winterruption YEG reveals 2027 lineup and Shout Out Out Out’s comeback

While the Edmonton winter bites, a potent wave of cultural warmth is brewing, promising to thaw the cold with the vibrant sounds and diverse experiences of Winterruption YEG. This year marks the seventh annual festival, set to bring an eclectic and unforgettable lineup from January 20 to 24, 2027.

The festival is not just a concert series; it’s a dynamic collision of genres and communities. The musical agenda features a stellar collection of acts, headlined by established names like Bill Callahan and Grouper, alongside other compelling performers such as Cola, Clarion, Deadbolt, Parlor Greens, Habibi, and TRAITRS.

Adding a unique edge to the musical tapestry is the inclusion of local electropunks, most notably Shout Out Out Out Out, who will be making their debut performance on the main stage in nearly eight years—an electrifying return to the scene.

Beyond the main stages, Winterruption YEG embraces a commitment to holistic arts and cultural dialogue. The festival includes the Northern Arts Conference on January 21 and 22, providing a deep dive into regional artistic expression, followed by a significant Indigenous Arts Day on January 24.

This Indigenous Arts Day segment goes beyond exhibition, offering interactive experiences. Attendees can participate in DJ workshops led by Shub and Handsome Tiger, exploring both traditional and contemporary music. Furthermore, the event offers a meaningful opportunity for connection through tea and bannock shared with Elders.

The festival’s programming also features unexpected bursts of comedy and performance. Fans can catch a local cast performing Kevin McDonald, the inimitable Kevin McDonald of The Kids in the Hall, in a staging of his rock opera Kevin McDonald Superstar. Laughter is guaranteed throughout the event, bolstered by comedy acts including Dave Hill and John Batt of @canada.gov.ca.

For a dose of drag, the festival will feature the highly anticipated programming led by Brooke Lynn Hytes, the host of Canada’s Drag Race, on January 23.

Winterruption YEG is positioning itself as a true cultural hub, offering something for every palate and perspective. Presale wristbands are currently available until this Saturday, October 10, with public sales opening Monday, October 12, at 10 a.m. local time. Don’t miss this unique blend of music, arts, and community spirit.
