Rock royalty found a new home for nostalgia this week as Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day brought his cover band The Coverups back to the stage. Following Marshall’s recent excitement over his signature Dookie amplifier, Armstrong and his band performed for two major California audiences, kicking off with a high-energy show at The Roxy in West Hollywood on Monday.

The celebration continued Thursday when The Coverups traveled to San Diego to participate in the annual SDCC Fandom Party at the Hard Rock Hotel. This trip wasn’t just about great music; it was a celebration of rock history, featuring an unforgettable lineup that bridged decades of iconic anthems.

Adding a layer of legendary gravitas to the performance was Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden, who joined the band for a special collaboration. Dickinson shared the stage with The Coverups to perform a rendition of David Bowie’s “All The Young Dudes,” a song that bridges generations, especially since Dickinson previously covered it on his 1990 solo debut, Tattooed Millionaire.

The San Diego performance was a true rock marathon, showcasing the band’s knack for pulling together an epic setlist. The collective performance was punctuated by meaningful tributes; during their Monday performance, they dedicated their cover of “Drain You” to L7’s Jennifer Finch, who passed away at age 59, making the tribute an emotional highlight of the night.
