Watch Hilary Duff’s Catastrophe Song for The Cat in the Hat

Hilary Duff is bringing a dose of delightful chaos to her comeback year, pairing her musical momentum with a mischievous feline theme for a brand new track.

The pop star has released CATastrophe, an original song crafted for Warner Bros. Pictures Animation’s upcoming theatrical adaptation of The Cat in the Hat. The track dropped on Friday, October 2nd, accompanied by a music video that plunges viewers into a series of colorful, oversized worlds inspired by the whimsical visual language of Dr. Seuss.

Beyond the playful visuals, the song taps into a relatable feeling: what happens when your world suddenly rearranges itself before you have a chance to adjust? Duff co-wrote CATastrophe with her husband and frequent collaborators Matthew Koma, Madison Love, and Brian Phillips, with Koma and Phillips also handling the production. The track offers an upbeat, car-ready pop sound that perfectly juxtaposes the feeling of life upheaval with a sense of energetic freedom.

Duff shared that the opportunity to contribute to the movie was easy, recalling how Dr. Seuss books were a fixture in her childhood home. She described the song as an exploration of having one’s entire world rearranged without any say in the matter, making it a fitting, energetic reflection of the experience.

This release comes as Duff continues her successful musical comeback. Earlier this year, she released her first studio album in over a decade, Luck… Or Something. The 11-track album made a strong debut, landing at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart and marking her highest position on the list since 2007.

Duff’s return to pop energy extends far beyond the studio. After a nearly two-decade pause from full-scale touring, she launched the Lucky Me tour this year, bringing her Y2K-era hits and new material to fans globally. The tour has been extended through 2027, and Duff is set to be recognized for her work, with the Billboard ‘Outstanding Pop Tour of the Year award at the 2026 Billboard Live Music Summit.

The Cat in the Hat movie itself is set to hit theaters and IMAX on November 6th. The animated feature stars Bill Hader as the iconic Seussian troublemaker, Cat, as he attempts to help his siblings Gabby and Sebastian adjust to moving to a new town, alongside a talented cast including Matt Berry, Quinta Brunson, Xochitl Gomez, Giancarlo Esposito, and America Ferrera.
