On Tuesday, September 1st, Alex Van Halen was officially knighted in the Netherlands. This distinguished recognition came in the form of the prestigious Knight in the Order of the Netherlands Lion, one of the country’s highest civilian honors, marking a significant moment for the musician.
The ceremony took place in Nijmegen, a city steeped in shared history for the Van Halen brothers. It was in Nijmegen, where Alex and his brother Eddie spent much of their childhood before their family eventually made the move to the United States, that this formal honor was bestowed.
The presentation itself was handled by Mayor Hubert Bruls, who presented the royal honor at the Berchmanianum, the historic academy building of Radboud University. It was a fitting tribute, connecting Alex’s musical legacy with the rich cultural heritage of the Netherlands.
