Trudeau Launches New Film and TV Production Company
Beyond the political arena and pop culture spotlight, a new creative venture is taking shape, driven by a mission to weave powerful narratives that connect and inspire. Justin Trudeau and his former Chief of Staff, Katie Telford, have officially launched a new media company called Hope & Hard Work, signaling a deliberate shift toward original, empathetic storytelling.
This new endeavor is built on the conviction that great storytelling has the power to bridge divides. The goal of Hope & Hard Work is to produce scripted series and feature films designed to evoke empathy and understanding, allowing audiences to see the world through different perspectives and recognize the shared values that bind us.
The company’s ambitious slate already features at least five projects in development. These initiatives are a rich mix of adaptations and original concepts, showcasing a diverse range of potential stories.
Among the planned projects are adaptations of compelling literary works, including Closer by Sea by Perry Chafe, Detective Aunty by Uzma Jalaluddin, and Power Moves by Leesa Ronald. They are also developing a project based on the political tome The Right Hand: Conversations with the Chiefs of Staff to the World’s Most Powerful People by Phoebe Saintilan-Stocks, which is currently working under the title Backchannels.
Adding to the creative tapestry is an original series titled La Collège, created by writers Jessie Gabe and Shebli Zarghami, bringing fresh perspectives to the screen.
The founders articulated their vision in a joint statement, emphasizing the importance of Canadian values in their work. They expressed excitement about bringing these stories to the screen, believing that a Canadian company has a unique opportunity to infuse everything it creates with values such as kindness, optimism, openness, and a profound belief in one another.
The launch of Hope & Hard Work was officially unveiled this week at the Toronto International Film Festival, setting a high-profile stage for this new creative enterprise.
