Troye Sivan’s happy orbit with a woman
While Troye Sivan commands the spotlight on stage and in the studio, his greatest comfort often lies in the intimate world of connection. For the pop star, the true sanctuary isn’t found in the flashing lights, but in the spaces where he feels most at home—with women.
Speaking recently with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe in New York, Sivan opened up about the deep-seated feeling that has guided his creative path, particularly as he prepares for his forthcoming fourth studio album, She’s the Best. He explained that this feeling is not a recent development, but a constant that has defined his experience.
“I’m so comfortable and kind of like my happiest, honestly, when I’m existing in the orbit of like a woman,” Sivan shared. He elaborated that this comfort stems from a profound sense of safety and protection he has experienced from women, a feeling he notes is distinct from what he has felt from men.
This realization became the bedrock of the album’s DNA, informing the songwriting process for She’s the Best. Sivan pointed to a constellation of women who have occupied this cherished orbit throughout his career, including his duet with Ariana [Grande], his work with Lily-Rose Depp on The Idol, his SWEAT tour with Charli xcx, and collaborations with Nicole Kidman.
This sense of belonging also links back to his youthful rituals. Sivan recalled the simple joy of getting ready for house parties with his female friends, a time when he found more fun and genuine connection than the parties themselves. He contrasted this comfort with the environments he avoided, noting that he would only arrive at some social gatherings to encounter boys being homophobic, highlighting the stark difference between spaces of belonging and those of exclusion.
The forthcoming album, which arrives on October 9th, is imbued with this newfound sense of confidence and groundedness. It follows the recent release of his single “Party,” which features a sample from Madonna’s iconic “Music,” setting a vibrant tone for the project.
By weaving these powerful personal experiences into his music, Sivan is crafting an album that is as much a celebration of female companionship as it is a soundtrack to his journey. She’s the Best is set to be a soulful reflection of the power found in loving and being loved by women.
