Tori Amos pens a second fairytale

Tori Amos is returning to the enchanted realm of the Emerald Forest with her second children’s book, A Sorta Fairytale. Scheduled for release on April 6, 2027, from Penguin Workshop, the new installment serves as a charming prequel to her 2025 debut, Tori and the Muses, inviting young readers into the magical world of Rose Dover and its woodland inhabitants.

The inspiration for the new story stemmed from a desire to encourage young readers to embrace their own creative instincts. This project grew from Amos’ vision of introducing children to the idea that following their inner voice is the most powerful adventure of all.

A Sorta Fairytale takes this concept deeper into Amos’ fictional universe. Young Tori finds her beloved hometown of Rose Dover entangled in a spell cast by Mr. Bad Man. To restore the town’s spark, she calls upon her animal friends in the Emerald Forest and the Muses themselves. Their quest culminates in a wonderful solution involving a special pink piano, proving that music holds the key to breaking any enchantment.

Amos speaks about the journey of creating this world, reflecting on the stories that called to her after completing Tori and the Muses. She discovered the vastness of the narratives held within Rose Dover and the Emerald Forest.

The vision for this enchanting world was brought vividly to life through the collaboration with illustrator Demelsa Haughton, whose exquisite artwork established the visual language for the earlier book. Amos found working with Haughton again endlessly inspiring as she watched the world come alive on the page.

Adding to the magic of the creative process was Francesco Sedita, president and publisher of Penguin Workshop, who joined Amos on this journey. Sedita noted that witnessing Amos create the environment and its magic has been “nothing short of wonderful,” describing the experience as “more fun than I can describe.”

This new book joins Amos’ growing collection of literary works, which include Resistance: A Songwriter’s Story of Hope, Change and Courage and Piece by Piece. With eighteen studio albums already released, including the recent In Times of Dragons>, Tori Amos continues to weave stories that blend the depth of music with the wonder of imagination.
