Thundercat Zooms Ahead with a Sonic Song
Thundercat is clearly moving at light speed, throwing down incredible music while continuing his acclaimed Distracted AF tour. But this time, the virtuoso bassist is adding a burst of pure velocity to the mix, teaming up with electronic powerhouse Button Masher for a track that channels the high-octane energy of Sonic the Hedgehog.
The resulting collaboration, titled “Moving at Light Speed,” is officially out and available now via Brainfeeder. The track is a masterclass in energetic fusion, blending Thundercat’s distinctive falsetto bass lines with Button Masher’s skittering, kinetic electronic production. It’s bright, playful, and twitchy, punctuated by Sonic’s familiar golden-ring sound effects that give the music an irresistible, caffeinated momentum.
This sonic journey is slated to culminate at Club Chaos: A Sonic 35th Anniversary Celebration, a sold-out, one-night-only Sonic experience taking over New York City on Friday, October 9th. For fans who can’t be there in person, the event will be streamed live across Sonic’s Twitch and YouTube channels, allowing the excitement to reach a global audience.
Button Masher is well-known for bridging diverse musical worlds, effortlessly navigating the intersection of electronic music, jazz, and gaming culture. His artistic resume is packed with collaborations across the genre, including work with artists like Phoenix, the 8-Bit Big Band, and Evan Marien. His latest album, Super Button Masher, arrived last month via Brainfeeder, further cementing his reputation as a true innovator.
While the collaboration is catching fire, Thundercat remains on the road, bringing their electrifying sound to audiences worldwide. The band is currently performing in Tampa, Florida, and has dates scheduled through December 5 in Los Angeles. Adding to the festive schedule, Thundercat will also headline the first day of the December 11-12 Holiday Hootenanny in Austin, Texas, where they will be joined by Magdalena Bay, 54 Ultra, Drugdealer, Frost Children, and Gelli Haha and the Charm.
