The Strokes and Phoebe Bridgers join SNL as musical guests

Indie Icons Take the Stage: The Strokes and Phoebe Bridgers Headline Upcoming Saturday Night Live

The world of indie music is currently shining a spotlight on some of its most compelling voices, with The Strokes and Phoebe Bridgers confirmed as musical guests for upcoming episodes of Saturday Night Live. These appearances promise a blend of nostalgic rock energy and deeply introspective artistry, setting the stage for a night of cultural collision.

The Strokes, known for their effortlessly cool, retro-infused sound, will join the cast on November 7, performing alongside host Druski. Their presence marks a return to the bright side of their career, especially as they recently dropped their seventh studio album, Reality Awaits, which has been praised for sounding “more alive and locked in than they have in years.” Their history on SNL is long and storied, with past appearances dating back to 2002, 2006, 2011, and 2020.

Meanwhile, Phoebe Bridgers is set to bring her signature melancholic brilliance to the show on November 14, when John Mulaney hosts. Bridgers has built a reputation for raw, emotionally resonant songwriting, and her recent work continues to captivate audiences. Her third solo album, Lost Weekend, which ended a six-year wait, was hailed as a “staggering, strange and stirring opus” by critics, and it became her first solo UK Number One album.

Bridgers’ journey is also marked by unforgettable moments. Her earlier debut appearance on SNL in February 2021 featured performances from her 2020 album Punisher. One particular moment from that performance became legendary: Bridgers smashed her Danelectro guitar against a stage monitor during the climax of the song “I Know The End.” This viral moment led to the guitar selling at auction for a remarkable $101,500, raising funds for the GLAAD Media Awards.

Beyond her solo work, Bridgers is currently on the North American leg of her phone-free ‘Lost Tour’, which is expanding across Europe. This showcases a commitment to intimate, live performance, connecting her deeply personal music with a wide international audience.

The cultural conversation around art and performance continues to evolve, as seen in other recent appearances. Bridgers previously shared the stage with Boygenius—comprised of Julien Baker, Lucy Dacus, and herself—in November 2023, performing tracks like “Not Strong Enough” and “Satanist” with Timothée Chalamet as host. These shared moments underscore how powerfully contemporary artists connect with the public.
