The Cribs special show celebrating 20 years with !Forward Russia
The indie music world is gearing up for a bang, as The Cribs are celebrating two decades of musical legacy with a special homecoming show. The celebration centers around their acclaimed 2007 album, Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever, and is set to be joined by the celebrated rock outfit, !Forward, Russia!
This milestone event promises a night packed with nostalgia and high-energy performance. The gig will take place at Tileyard North in Wakefield on Friday, August 20th, marking the first confirmed headliners for next summer’s Live At Tileyard North series.
The main act will feature Ryan Jarman and his band, who will be revisiting the material from their landmark album in its entirety, bringing the classic tracks to the stage for a new generation.
Adding an extra layer of excitement, the show will also feature the renowned Yorkshire art rock heroes, !Forward, Russia!. They will be celebrating their own milestone by performing their 2007 debut album, Give Me A Wall, live.
This gathering connects a rich musical history, paying homage to two decades of infectious indie rock. The album itself, which The Cribs released two decades ago, was a critical success, landing at Number Nine on NME’s Albums Of The Year list in 2007 and earning an impressive 8/10 review from NME, which praised it as the “sexiest dirty pop record of the year”.
The history of the music extends further, with The Cribs re-releasing their three studio albums in 2022, reigniting interest and seeing them all re-enter the UK charts. This recent movement highlights how deeply enduring the appeal of these records remains for fans.
The excitement surrounding this retrospective is palpable, as promoters recognize the power of connecting fans with music that holds such emotional weight. As one promoter noted, staging this event with The Cribs’ first hometown show in over ten years would be “incredibly special.”
