Teskey Brothers headline Global Citizen Nights Perth
The West Coast is set to welcome a major cultural and policy convergence as Global Citizen brings its annual Nights: Perth event to the stage.
Marking the end of a powerful action summit, the free, ticketed concert will feature ARIA Award-winning folk-rock act The Teskey Brothers as the headliner on October 20. The spectacular event draws on Perth’s iconic Riverside Theatre at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre, celebrating Western Australia’s growing role as a renewable energy powerhouse.
This gathering is part of the Global Citizen NOW: Perth action summit, an intense pow-wow that brings together leaders from government, business, philanthropy, and various sectors to focus on achieving global goals. The event spans October 18 through 20, spotlighting how regional action can drive change.
Adding a vibrant musical element to the summit, the program also features performances by South Summit and Ruby Rodgers. It is a momentous occasion for Global Citizen, which has made its return to Perth for the first time in fifteen years, following its landmark participation in the End of Polio concert on the West Coast in 2011.
The musical centerpiece is delivered by Josh Teskey, frontman of The Teskey Brothers, who expressed his delight at the invitation. “It’s a real honor to be invited to play at Global Citizen Nights: Perth,” Teskey commented. “What Global Citizen is doing is so much bigger than music, so it’s pretty special to be able to contribute in a small way. We’re really grateful to be part of it, and looking forward to getting up there and playing some tunes to close out this really special event.”
The Teskey Brothers’ recent success highlights their enduring appeal. Their third and most recent studio album, The Winding Way, achieved No. 1 on the ARIA Chart and received recognition at the ARIA Awards for best blues & roots album, demonstrating the powerful intersection of artistic expression and social awareness.
The action summit itself brought together some of Australia’s most influential figures. Participants included retired Australian swimming champion Ian Thorpe, Mathias Cormann, secretary-general of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation, and chart-topping WA-based musician and activist John Butler, who delivered a keynote address, emphasizing the urgency of climate and energy action.
Global Citizen is a global movement dedicated to ending extreme poverty. Established in Australia in 2008 and spearheaded by co-founder and CEO Hugh Evans, the organization has mobilized significant global effort, deploying more than US$50 billion in commitments on Global Citizen platforms.
Co-founder and chief policy officer at Global Citizen, Michael Sheldrick, expressed immense excitement about the event. “We couldn’t be more excited to return to Western Australia with Global Citizen Nights: Perth,” he stated. “It’s going to be an unforgettable night of Aussie music closing out two important days of action spotlighting WA as a renewable energy powerhouse, and how we can help build a future where our neighbors across the Indo-Pacific have access to reliable, affordable electricity.”
