Tame Impala stops signing due to autograph hounds
The pursuit of a signature, often a rite of passage for fans, has taken an unexpected turn for some music legends. Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker has drawn a firm line in the sand, announcing a total cessation of autograph signings and photo opportunities after experiencing some truly aggressive behavior.
Currently navigating the North American leg of their ‘Deadbeat’ arena tour, Parker decided that the line between fan engagement and harassment had been crossed. He shared his decision on Instagram Stories, issuing a quick public service announcement to his followers about these recent encounters.
“Due to the rise of aggressive autograph hounds, I won’t be signing anything or doing photos out the front of hotels or at airports at all anymore,” Parker stated. He emphasized that while he wasn’t previously that passionate about the tradition, the situation had escalated. He noted that some of these admirers had started targeting children, a practice he found completely unacceptable.
The message was clear: the era of impromptu photo sessions and hurried signatures was over. Furthermore, Parker announced he would be avoiding meeting fans in parking lots after shows, citing security concerns, ensuring that his focus remained on the music and the experience of the performance itself.
While the focus shifted away from celebrity meet-and-greets, the Tame Impala tour continues to be a whirlwind of musical collaboration and excitement. The band is currently taking fans across the US, hitting stops in Oregon, Denver, Phoenix, and Dallas.
This tour has also been marked by exciting special guests. The band recently brought in global stars to join them, including Jennie from BLACKPINK and Djo, the star of Stranger Things, adding fresh energy to the live performances.
One memorable moment was their collaborative work on the viral ‘Dracula’ remix with Jennie. This track has since become a favorite, appearing in Jennie’s solo gigs and performances, further cementing the band’s knack for creating music that resonates widely.
Looking ahead, Tame Impala is gearing up for an international return, planning a tour across the UK and Europe next summer. They will be supported by Wet Leg, set to perform in major cities like Manchester and London before heading to Rotterdam, Paris, and beyond.
