  • Six Hospitalized Following Angine de Poitrine’s Record-Breaking Montreal Jazz Festival Set

The music world often moves at a different pace, but sometimes, when an event hits just the right note, the resulting energy can sweep across the city and demand an unprecedented response. This was the case during the recent Montreal Jazz Festival, where the sheer enthusiasm for a major performance led to an extraordinary crowd that tested the limits of local emergency services.

The excitement reached a fever pitch following Angine de Poitrine‘s spectacular performance at the festival on Saturday night (June 27). The concert was a highlight of the 46th edition, bringing a record-breaking attendance to Place des Festivals. Fans were clearly ready for an unforgettable evening, reflecting a massive appetite for live music.

The scale of the celebration prompted a significant strain on local resources. Between 10 p.m. and midnight, paramedics responded to ten separate calls in the Jean-Mance Street—Sainte-Catherine Street area. Six attendees required transport to the hospital, prompting immediate medical attention for those who experienced various issues.

While the number of emergency calls was high, health officials were quick to reassure the public that the situation was manageable and not indicative of a crisis. A spokesperson confirmed that the calls related primarily to falls, intoxication, and other general medical problems, none of which were considered life-threatening.

When asked about the unusually high volume of calls, officials emphasized preparedness. “We do that for the biggest concerts, it happens,” explained a health official, noting that emergency services are equipped and ready to handle such large gatherings efficiently.

The incident underscores the powerful connection between cultural events and public behavior. It highlights how intensely passionate crowds can translate into logistical challenges when managing large-scale public safety. Ultimately, the night showcased not only the brilliance of the musical performances but also the collective energy generated by a truly spectacular festival turnout.
