Two Door Cinema Club Announces Landmark UK and Ireland Arena Tour
After a seven-year pause, indie stalwarts Two Door Cinema Club are back on the road, announcing their first headline UK and Ireland tour in over seven years. This expansive run is set to celebrate the 15th anniversary of their era-defining debut album, Tourist History, with a series of career-spanning sets across major arenas.
The excitement is palpable as the band prepares for an ambitious schedule early next year. They will hit Dublin’s 3Arena on January 23, followed by Belfast’s SSE Arena on January 24, Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on January 26, Manchester’s AO Arena on January 27, and finally conclude their run at London’s O2 on January 28.
This tour is more than just a concert series; it’s a celebration of their journey. As bassist Kevin Baird reflected on their history, the pressure always existed to live up to breakout hits like What You Know and I Can Talk. Yet, the band has consistently focused on forging their own sound, chasing new musical territory rather than simply replicating past magic.
“We didn’t want people to kneel at the altar of our genius; we wanted to entertain them,” Baird explained. He admitted that while they initially felt like outsiders after releasing Tourist History, this experience only solidified their commitment to doing their own thing, ensuring they never become trapped by expectations.
The album itself made a significant impact, reaching number one on the Irish charts and earning a spot on the BBC’s coveted ‘Sound Of’ poll in 2010. Critics, such as NME, praised the debut, noting that the band’s sound was tightly woven—“Two Door’s stuttering yet spiky songs are tighter than a snake’s bumhole in a sandstorm.”
Now, as they step into their next chapter, the tour promises to be even bigger. The dates feature special guests across the continent, including The Royston Club joining them for the Ireland stops in Dublin and Belfast. Furthermore, high-profile acts like Circa Waves and Arkayla are slated to appear in Glasgow, Manchester, and London.
Beyond the arena dates, the celebration extends into other major events throughout the year. The band has lined up concerts at iconic venues like Cardiff Castle and New York’s Madison Square Garden later this year. They are also scheduled to participate in major festivals, including the Isle Of Wight Festival, Kendall Calling, Truck Festival, Y Not Festival, and TRNSMT.
With five LPs released to date, including their latest Keep On Smiling, Two Door Cinema Club is not just revisiting a milestone but continuing to evolve. The upcoming tour marks an exciting moment for the band as they look ahead to what comes next in their musical story.
