Stream No Man’s Sky’s ‘Cosmos’ Anniversary EP now

A decade ago, the vast, bewildering expanse of the cosmos was brought to life for players of No Man’s Sky. Released in August 2016, this action-adventure survival game quickly evolved from a concept into an sprawling, procedurally generated open world that now encompasses 256 galaxies and more than 18 quintillion planets.

For ten years, players have been deep in the digital void, exploring uncharted worlds and uncovering cosmic secrets. Despite the staggering scale of the universe contained within the game, developer Sean Murray noted that players have only managed to discover less than one percent of the available content, leaving the true depth of the experience waiting for future explorers.

The journey has been anything but static. Over the past ten years, the game has received more than 40 significant updates, constantly expanding the horizons and adding layers of depth to this limitless universe.

Most recently, the community celebrated this milestone with the massive Cosmos update, which launched last month, offering players new ways to engage with the infinite space. This expansion invited players to take on grander roles, encouraging them to become directors of space stations, join galactic alliances, construct massive space bases, and hunt for deep-space marvels.

The ‘Cosmos’ update itself is a hub of grand adventure, inviting players to navigate new star system maps, strip colossal space hulks for valuable parts, recover physical salvage, and haul resources to remote outposts. It truly allows the player to step into the role of a cosmic architect.

Adding a further layer of majestic immersion to these epic journeys was the new musical soundtrack. Audio director Paul Weir created five brand new tracks for the expansion, crafting an expansive electronica soundscape that perfectly complements the bizarre, beautiful, and dangerous marvels of deep space exploration.

The resulting No Man’s Sky Cosmos EP is now available to stream, providing a sonic backdrop to every stellar event. Critics have praised the work, noting how the patient swells and synth stabs make every activity—from flying into a star to stripping a hulk—feel truly majestic.

This musical collaboration builds upon previous creative efforts. Previously, the band 65daysofstatic”>65daysofstatic had composed the companion album Music For An Infinite World for the original game, and later reworked their generative soundscapes into intentional pieces in their double album Journeys. This history of musical collaboration, with Weir serving as a kind of sound wizard, ensures that the soundtrack is not just background noise, but an essential piece of the cosmic narrative.
