Stephen Malkmus announces US solo tour

After dedicating much of the recent decade to the dynamic world of Pavement and The Hard Quartet, musician Stephen Malkmus is gearing up for a fresh musical adventure. Following a period of focused group work, Malkmus has announced a short West Coast tour, bringing his unique sound to California cities including Ventura, Big Sur, Sonoma, Sacramento, and Santa Cruz during the first week of September.

While some might have anticipated a solo journey, this upcoming run focuses on new material rather than revisiting past projects. This tour marks a chance for Malkmus to explore new territory with his music as he prepares for the next phase of his career.

The announcement comes amidst Pavement‘s continued momentum. The group recently made waves by playing the 2026 Mosswood Meltdown pre-party, where they delivered a cover of “Stairway to Heaven,” and have further East Coast dates lined up this month.

Adding to the excitement, Pavement will also be taking the stage at Atlanta’s Shaky Knees in September. This extended period of activity suggests that Malkmus is deeply engaged in sharing his craft with audiences.

The upcoming tour dates provide a roadmap for fans eager to experience the music live. The itinerary details a week-long journey through the stunning California landscape:

  • Tuesday, September 1: Ventura Music Hall, Ventura CA
  • Wednesday, September 2: Henry Miller Memorial Library, Big Sur CA
  • Friday, September 4: Gundlach Bundschu Winery, Sonoma CA
  • Saturday, September 5: Crest Theatre, Sacramento CA
  • Sunday, September 6: Rio Theatre, Santa Cruz CA

Tickets for this West Coast excursion are now available, inviting music lovers to catch Malkmus and his sound as they explore the scenic California coast.
