Stef Chura releases LP ft. R.E.M. and Sugar & Apples in Stereo after 7 years
Detroit singer-songwriter Stef Chura is back with a brand new sonic chapter, announcing her latest album Dancing Alone on the Concrete. After a seven-year pause, the project is set to hit streaming platforms on October 2nd via Saddle Creek, marking an exciting evolution for the artist.
This new work builds upon the foundation of her 2019 release, Midnight, and showcases Chura’s expansive musical vision. The album was crafted with the assistance of producer Robert Schneider of Apples in Stereo, lending a distinct texture to the tracks. Adding depth to the sound are high-profile collaborators, including David Barbe of Sugar, Andy LeMaster of Now It’s Overhead, and the legendary rock trio of Peter Buck and Mike Mills from R.E.M..
The first taste of this fresh material is the yearning, bittersweet track “Danny,” a song that captures Chura’s reflective sensibility. In the lyrics, she shares how “Danny” evolved from an ode to romantic fantasy: “I met someone who was traveling through New Orleans… I wrote ‘Danny’ as an ode to the fantasy of meeting someone who could sweep me off my feet when I felt like I needed rescuing.” The song delves into the exhilarating yet wistful experience of seizing a moment and imagining a different version of oneself.
The album features nine tracks, including “Leadweight,” “The Concrete,” “Babydoll,” and the standout “Thunder and Lightning.” Chura’s complete tracklist includes “Danny,” “Be My Hound,” and “Heavy Hitter.”
As the album launches, Chura is gearing up for a significant live run. She will be embarking on a fall tour with Dinosaur Jr., bringing her compelling sound to audiences across the country. Fans can look forward to seeing her live dates throughout October and November, including stops in major cities like Las Vegas, Austin, New Orleans, and Seattle.
The tour dates span from July 24th through November 7th, offering fans a chance to experience the new music and Chura’s artistry live on stage. These events are scheduled across various venues, including Grewal Hall, Brooklyn Bowl, The Castro Theatre, and Tipitina’s.
