Spotify hits 788M users and 306M subscribers in Q3 2026
The streaming world is buzzing, and the giant that dominates the audio landscape, Spotify, just delivered a report that proves big ideas and smart scaling pay off. In its latest quarterly update, Spotify not only sustained double-digit growth but also significantly boosted its profitability, catching Wall Street and the global audience by surprise.
The financial performance was a resounding success. Spotify’s total revenue expanded by 16% year-over-year, hitting €4.969 billion or $5,569 billion. This growth was particularly strong in the premium segment, where revenue jumped by a remarkable 17% to €4.487 billion. Even the ad-supported tier saw healthy growth, contributing €482 million with a 10% increase.
But the true measure of the success lies in how they managed growth while optimizing efficiency. Spotify achieved a record high gross margin of 33.0% for the third quarter, demonstrating that the streaming giant is mastering the art of scaling profitability without sacrificing audience expansion.
On the user side, the global listener base continues its impressive expansion. Total Monthly Active Users (MAUs) reached 788 million, marking an 11% year-over-year increase. The platform successfully grew its premium subscriber base by 9% to 306 million, while the ad-supported tier also grew healthily, reaching 499 million MAUs with a 12% increase.
Beyond the core numbers, Spotify isn’t just chasing streams; they are pioneering new ways for creators to earn a living. The focus has clearly shifted to personalization and monetization tools that empower the community.
To facilitate this, Spotify rolled out powerful new features. They launched Creator Memberships across 34 markets, allowing eligible podcast creators to offer paid memberships directly to their fans. This move is set to revolutionize how creators monetize their content, with analysts already speculating that this model could expand to music in 2027.
Furthermore, the ecosystem is getting smarter. A new Taste Profile was introduced in the U.S. for Premium Subscribers, giving users an editable view of how the platform understands their musical preferences. Meanwhile, the expansion into audiobooks is set to be massive, with plans to expand globally from 22 markets to over 180 by the end of 2026.
The platform’s reach continues to expand, too. The Spotify Partner Program has been successfully expanded into more than 35 new markets, unlocking fresh revenue streams for podcast creators in regions like Brazil, Mexico, Italy, and Spain. It’s a testament to Spotify’s ability to innovate, turning global listening habits into powerful economic opportunities for everyone involved.
